Neil Lennon quit as Celtic manager on Thursday after a successful four-year spell at Parkhead. Here is a factfile of the former Celtic and Leicester midfielder:

Playing career

1987: After starting with Glenavon in the Irish League, moves to Manchester City, but makes just one appearance after back problems.

1990: Joins Crewe on free transfer.

1994: Wins first Northern Ireland cap.

1996: February - Joins Leicester for £750,000 ($1.26m, 926,000 euros).

May - Leicester promoted to Premier League.

1997: Wins League Cup after victory over Middlesbrough.

2000: February - Wins second League Cup after Leicester beat Tranmere.

December - Completes £5.75million switch to Celtic.

2001: March - Reveals he is considering international retirement after being booed by Northern Ireland fans during Windsor Park defeat by Norway.

May - Celtic beat Hibernian 3-0 to complete the treble.

2002: August - Lennon pulls out of the Northern Ireland team on the evening of a match against Cyprus after receiving a death threat. Retires from international football after winning 40 caps.

2004: Celtic complete double with Scottish Cup final win over Dunfermline.

2005: Appointed Celtic captain by Gordon Strachan.

2007: April - Celtic clinch SPL title, the fifth during Lennon's time.

May - Lennon plays his final Celtic match in a 1-0 Scottish Cup final win over Dunfermline.

June - Joins Nottingham Forest.

Managerial career

April 2008: Takes up a first-team coaching role with Celtic.

2009: Under Tony Mowbray, Lennon is put in charge of Celtic's reserves.

2010: Appointed Celtic's caretaker manager after Mowbray sacked.
