Swansea sign France striker Gomis

Premier League Swansea have completed the signing of France striker Bafetimbi Gomis on a four-year deal, the Welsh club announced Friday.

The 28-year-old has joined the Swans on a free transfer after his contract with French club Lyon expired.

"Swansea City is pleased to announce the signing of French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis, subject to international clearance," said a statement on the club's website.

Swansea had tried to sign Gomis before the start of last season but the deal fell through and instead they turned to Wilfried Bony, who quickly became a fans' favourite at the Liberty Stadium during a season where the club finished a respectable 12th in the Premier League.

However, Gomis could play alongside the Ivorian rather than instead of him.

Gomis, a 13 million euro ($18 million) signing for Lyon in 2009, scored 22 goals last season but was not included in France coach Didier Deschamps's squad for the World Cup finals in Brazil.

At Lyon, the 12-times capped Gomis scored 62 goals in 172 league appearances.
