Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo has joined Spanish top-flight side Espanyol on a two-year deal, the club announced on Tuesday.

"The Ecuadorian striker...has signed for two seasons and will immediately link up with the first team," read a statement on the club's website.

Caicedo, 25, who was a free agent after leaving UAE-based Al Jazira, will join his new team-mates at Espanyol's pre-season training camp in the Pyrenees later this week.

Caicedo played in all three of Ecuador's matches at the World Cup in Brazil but failed to score as his country were eliminated in the group stage.

He previously had spells in Spain with Malaga, spending the latter half of the 2009/10 season there, before playing the 2010/11 campaign with Levante after twice being loaned out by then parent club Manchester City.
