Advocaat to take over as Serbia coach

Dutchman Dick Advocaat is set to take over as Serbia coach, the national football federation announced on Tuesday.

"We have reached a deal with Advocaat afer long talks," state-run RTS television quoted Serbian federation chief Tomislav Karadzic as saying.

"The contract has not been signed yet but I expect it should be done in the coming days."

Advocaat replaces former player Ljubinko Drulovic, named interim coach after Sinisa Mihajlovic resigned following Serbia's failure to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

The much-travelled Advocaat coached Dutch side AZ Alkmaar last season.

The 66-year-old's coaching career includes stints with his native Netherlands, Belgium, South Korea and Russia.

He also won the 1999 domestic treble with Scottish side Rangers as well as the 2007 Russian Premier League and the 2008 UEFA Cup crown with Zenit Saint Petersburg.
