Overseas trio quit Ukraine club over armed conflict

Three foreign footballers have left Ukrainian top flight club Volyn Lutsk as the deadly rebellion in the southeast continues, local media reported Friday.

They were named as Romanian playmaker Eric Bicfalvi, Brazilian midfielder Ramon Lopes and Nigerian forward Michel Babatunde by ITAR-TASS agency.

Last week seven overseas players refused to return to Ukrainian sides Shakhtar Donetsk and Metalist Kharkiv following the shooting down of the Malaysia Airliner.

Volyn said they were holding talks with Bicfalvi about his return to the club.

Another Ukrainian side, Dynamo Kiev, expressed hope that they could hold on to their foreign players.

"If you ask any of the Ukrainian club's foreign players whether they want to leave you'll get an affirmative reply," Dynamo coach Serhiy Rebrov told the club's official website.

"Dynamo foreigners aren't an exception to this rule. But they are true professionals and carry out their commitments so far. I hope that Dynamo chiefs will find the way to keep them in the club."
