Hull City's new midfielder Robert Snodgrass will be out of action for up to six months due to a dislocated kneecap, the Premier League club announced via Twitter on Wednesday.

"(Manager) Steve Bruce has revealed Robert Snodgrass could be out for up to six months with a dislocated knee cap," Hull said. "Everyone at the club would like to wish @robsnodgrass7 a speedy recovery."

A £7 million ($11.7 million, 8.8 million euros) close-season signing from Norwich City, 26-year-old Snodgrass injured his knee in the first half of Hull's 1-0 league win at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

The Scotland international wrote on Twitter: "Gutted ....!!! But I will work as hard as I can to come back fitter and stronger."

Hull, runners-up in last season's FA Cup final, visit Belgian side Lokeren on Thursday for the first leg of a Europa League play-off tie.

As well as Hull's fixtures, Snodgrass will also miss Scotland's opening 2016 European Championship qualifiers against Germany, Georgia, Poland and the Republic of Ireland, plus a friendly against England in November.

"I am disappointed as Scotland national coach and I am disappointed for Steve Bruce at Hull City, but above all I am hugely disappointed for Robert because I know how much football means to him, none more so than playing for his country," Scotland manager Gordon Strachan told the Scottish Football Association's website.

"It's a shame that this terrible injury has occurred at the start of a new season, with a new club and a new qualifying campaign to look forward to, but the best players overcome such adversity in the long run and I have no doubts Robert will do just that."
