Costa to miss Macedonia qualifier with hamstring injury

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has pulled out of the Spain squad to face Macedonia in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier in Valencia on Monday due to a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old played for over an hour in the European champions 1-0 defeat to France in a friendly on Thursday and will be replaced in the squad by 18-year-old Barcelona wonderkid Munir El Haddadi.

"Diego Costa left the Spanish training base this morning due to a hamstring injury in his left leg," said a statement on the Spanish national team's website.

"The injury was detected by a scan carried out this afternoon after the player complained of the pain after playing yesterday against France."

Costa's injury leaves Spain boss Vicente del Bosque very short on attacking options with the inexperienced Paco Alcacer the only natural striker left in the squad.

Munir only made his Barcelona debut two weeks ago as he scored in a 3-0 win over Elche and he also made his bow with the Spanish under-21 side in a 1-0 victory over Hungary on Thursday.
