Schweinsteiger back in training with Bayern

Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, who hasn't played since the World Cup final, has returned to training with his Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, the league leaders announced on Saturday.

Bayern's 6-0 win over Werder Bremen kept them four points clear at the top of the league at the Allianz Arena, but on other side of Munich, Schweinsteiger went through half an hour of individual training on Saturday morning for the first time this season.

The 30-year-old last played in the World Cup final in July when Germany lifted their fourth title after a 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro.

Schweinsteiger, who has been suffering from a knee injury, was named as Germany's captain after Philipp Lahm retired in the wake of the World Cup triumph.

No date has been given as to when Schweinsteiger will play again for Bayern or Germany again with the national side third in their Euro 2016 group after a shock 2-0 defeat to Poland in Warsaw and a 1-1 draw at home to the Republic of Ireland.
