Bundesliga bottom side Werder Bremen on Saturday sacked coach Robin Dutt with his team winless after nine games of the season.

The 49-year-old, in charge for just over a year, was relieved of his job less than 24 hours after Friday's 1-0 defeat at home to Cologne which left his side with just four points and 23 goals conceded.

Dutt's assistants Damir Buric and Marco Langner have also been released.

He becomes the third Bundesliga coach to be sacked this season after Mirko Slomka (from Hamburg) and Jens Keller (Schalke 04).

The four-time German champions -- though their last title was back in 2004 -- were routed 6-0 at German league leaders Bayern Munich last Saturday with the visitors failing to generate a single shot at goal over 90 minutes.

"We'd like to thank Robin and his team for their work," said Bremen's director of sport Thomas Eichin.

"He steered the club through a difficult period with great passion over the last few months.

"However, in light of recent results we believe the team needs a new impulse in order to get out of the present situation."

Bremen's Under-23 coach Viktor Skripnik has been appointed as caretaker coach, with ex-Germany midfielder Torsten Frings as his assistant, while the search for Dutt's successor goes on.
