Celtic will be ready for Aberdeen clash

Celtic manager Ronny Deila insists his side will be ready for their trip north to face Aberdeen in their Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday.

The Hoops only arrived back in Scotland on Friday after their gruelling 1-1 draw with Romanian side Astra in the Europa League, played in testing weather conditions.

It leaves the Glasgow giants with very little recovery time before the match at Pittodrie, the scene of Celtic's only defeat in the league last season.

However, Deila is confident his team will be more than capable of coping with the challenges that Derek McInnes's side will pose them.

"We look physically and mentally strong now," the Norwegian manager said.

"Everything is going the right way and we have a team that is working hard together.

"Togetherness is much better than it has been and it's hard to play against us now.

"It's going to be very difficult at Aberdeen but we are starting to get used to this now. That's why it's good for us to be playing in Europe because we meet tough teams and Aberdeen are a team like that. It's going to be a tough match."

Celtic, who are looking for their fourth win in a row in the league, have been blighted by injuries to key players this season.

However, the Hoops have almost a full squad to pick for the match against Aberdeen with Kris Commons, James Forrest and Anthony Stokes set to return.

"We have a big squad and everybody except Derk Boerrigter is ready for the game, so we will see what we do in terms of selection," Delia said.

"That's the best situation we've been in so far injury-wise.

"I will pick the team I feel is the best for the match and we have John Guidetti back, which is a bonus.

"Playing Aberdeen away is one of our toughest fixtures, but it has been challenging for Celtic there before."

The tensions between the sides have been stoked ahead of the match after Celtic announced they are to appeal winger Aleksandar Tonev's seven match ban from the Scottish FA for racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan.

It means the on-loan Aston Villa player could play a part at Pittodrie while Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has vowed to play Logan.

"We just want to concentrate on the game," McInnes said.

"We can't decide or dictate what Celtic do, but from my point of view Shay's performances have been good since the last Celtic game - he's been excellent - so he'll be fine.

"I have total trust that he'll come in and give us his usual solid performance. I just want to remind people again that Shay is totally innocent in all of this.

"We have worked hard to go on the type of run we are on. We have shown different sides of our capabilities within that run, whether it be scoring goals or defending.

"There is a lot to like about us in the last few games. All those qualities we have shown, we will need to make sure they are evident on Sunday if we are going to get a result.

"We are against the team who are firm favourites to win the league, who are a very good side and who themselves are on a decent run of late.

"But we have shown over the last 18 months that we can go toe to toe with them and get results against them and we believe we can do that again on Sunday."
