Coach Gharib pays price for Egypt's Cup failure

Shawky Gharib was on Friday sacked as coach of Egypt for failing to qualify the Pharaohs for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Egypt missed out on the upcoming finals in Equatorial Guinea when a 2-1 defeat in Tunisia on Wednesday left them out of contention in third in Group G.

The 55-year-old Gharib who won the African showcase as a player in 1986 was appointed in 2013, replacing American Bob Bradley.

Egypt have won the Nations Cup title seven times, including three consecutive titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
