Curcic replaces Advocaat as Serbia coach

Radovan Curcic on Tuesday was named as the new manager of Serbia, the Serbia Under 21 coach succeeding Dick Advocaat who resigned this month, the national football federation said.

The 42-year-old will coach Serbia through the remaining Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Much-travelled Advocaat resigned on November 15, a day after a 3-1 Euro 2016 qualifying defeat at home to Denmark.

The 67-year-old Advocaat was only appointed coach of the Balkan country in July.

Serbia are currently at the bottom of Euro 2016 qualifying Group I with just one point.

They started with a 1-1 draw in Armenia before their game at home to Albania in Belgrade last month was abandoned when home fans invaded the pitch and attacked opposition players after a pro-Albanian flag was carried over the stadium by a drone.

UEFA's disciplinary committee later awarded Serbia a 3-0 victory but deducted them three points.

Curcic qualified Serbia's U-21 team for Euro 2015, eliminating Spain in the process.
