Former Hungary international Pal Dardai will stay on as his country's coach after leading the team to two wins and a draw in 2016 Euro qualifiers, the national football association said Tuesday.

Dardai, 38, a youth team coach at Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin, was taken on as Hungary coach for four games after his predecessor Attila Pinter was sacked in September over poor results.

In the interim however, Hungary won two of its European Championship qualifying games against Faroe Islands and Finland and drew 1-1 against Romania, taking away a crucial seven points.

Under the deal with Hertha Berlin, Dardai will stay on with the national team until the end of the qualifying round in November 2015.

Hungary, currently ranked 54th in the world, last qualified for an international tournament at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Its next qualifier will be in March against Greece.
