UEFA punish Croatia for trouble at Italy qualifier

Croatia must play their next Euro 2016 qualifier in a partially closed stadium after crowd disturbances at a game in Italy in November, UEFA said on Friday.

European football's governing body also hit the Croats with an 80,000-euro ($100,000, 63,400 pounds) fine after the November 15 Euro 2016 qualifying Group H match in Milan, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The game was held up briefly in the second half after part of the travelling support threw flares onto the pitch.

UEFA issued the punishment for that and for "racist behaviour" by fans, and the partial stadium closure will concern Croatia's home qualifier against Norway, scheduled to be played in Zagreb on March 28 next year.

Italy were also fined 13,000 euros for the "setting off of fireworks" by their fans at the same game.

At the same meeting UEFA said Belgian club Anderlecht must play their next European game in a partially closed stadium on account of projectiles and smoke bombs from a section of the crowd at a Champions League game with Turkey's Galatasaray last November 26.

Anderlecht, who go into the Europa League last-32 draw on Monday, were also hit with a 17,000-euro fine.
