Scotland line up Northern Ireland friendly

Scotland and Northern Ireland will play a friendly at Glasgow's Hampden Park on March 25, four days before the resumption of Euro 2016 qualifying, the British rivals announced on Tuesday.

Scotland, who are in third place in qualifying Group D, host Gibraltar on March 29, while Northern Ireland, second in Group F, entertain Finland at Windsor Park.

"Playing Northern Ireland, a national side full of confidence after their start to European qualifying, will be a good challenge for our team," said Scotland manager Gordon Strachan.

"There will obviously be a British derby feel to the game, which brings an added competitive edge, and that is exactly what we are looking for before we resume our qualifying campaign against Gibraltar."

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill said: "This is an excellent match for us prior to the Finland qualifier.

"It will have been just over four months since we were all together in Bucharest, so a testing game against local opponents will give us good preparation for the qualifier later in the week."
