Portugal's Pereira takes over as Olympiakos coach

Portugal's Vitor Pereira has signed a contract to coach Olympiakos for an undisclosed fee, the Greek champions announced Wednesday.

The club did not issue the duration of the contract but press reports said it is likely to be for the next 2.5 years.

When current Zenit St Petersburg Andre Villas-Boas left Porto to manage Chelsea in 2011, Pereira took over and led them to two straight Portuguese titles in 2012 and 2013.

Last season the 46-year-old coach was at Saudi Arabia club Al-Ahli.

Pereira replaces Spanish coach Michel who was released on Tuesday, notably for failing to guide the team into the knockout stages of the Champions League, and a series of results that left the Super League side one point behind PAOK Thessaloniki in the top flight standings.
