Chris Ramsey will be appointed QPR manager until the end of the season, according to British media reports on Thursday.

Ramsey took over the struggling Premier League team on a caretaker basis following Harry Redknapp's resignation last week and led them to their first away points of the campaign with a 2-0 win at Sunderland on Tuesday.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes had said earlier this week that he was close to securing his "dream manager", with former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup installed as the bookmakers' favourite for the job.

But Laudrup, currently in charge of Qatari side Lekhwiya, distanced himself from the role, as did former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood.

And ex-England Under-20 manager Ramsey is set to be handed the reins until the close-season, when the situation is likely to be reviewed, according to the BBC.

Derby manager Steve McClaren and Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement were also linked with the post.

But QPR midfielder Joey Barton threw his support behind Ramsey, tweeting on Thursday: "Good news also on Chris Ramsey. V good since he has come in. Got group back on track. Lots for us all to do now to keep club in the league."

Ramsey was initially installed in a caretaker role after being recommended to Fernandes by director of football Les Ferdinand.

Ferdinand brought Ramsey to Loftus Road as academy manager in October after the pair had previously enjoyed a close relationship working at Tottenham.

QPR lost 1-0 at home to Southampton on Saturday in Ramsey's first game in charge but three days later beat Sunderland to climb out of the bottom three.

After the win, Fernandes tweeted: "We were organised today and players played for Chris. Haven't smiled for a while. Thank you to all."

Prior to the game at the Stadium of Light, Ramsey had declared his interest in taking the job full-time.

Ramsey said: "As a coach and someone who has gone the long route round, if I got offered the chance to manage a Premier League team I'd jump at the chance."

Rangers are currently 17th in the table and above the relegation zone on goal difference with 13 games remaining.
