Spurs to play Sydney FC in friendly

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur will play Sydney FC in a friendly at the Sydney Olympic stadium in May, the Australian side said Friday.

The eight-times FA Cup winners will face the two-time domestic A-League champions on May 30.

Their visit adds to an already crowded pre-season cluster of teams heading Down Under with Liverpool, who last visited Australia two years ago, playing Brisbane Roar on July 17 before tackling Adelaide United three days later.

European champions Real Madrid headline a pre-season international tournament involving Manchester City and Italy's AS Roma at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from July 17-24.

Spurs will bring a strong squad, including rising superstar Harry Kane, Danish midfield wizard Christian Eriksen and French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow said.

"The visit to Sydney will provide the club with a perfect opportunity to engage with a growing fan base across the Asia-Pacific region and an extremely passionate official supporters club in Oz Spurs," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy added.
