US beat France to win Algarve Cup

The French women's team lost for the first time in 12 games on Wednesday when they went down 2-0 to the United States in the final of the Algarve Cup

The US team, who have won four of the five Olympic gold medals on offer, won their 10th Algarve Cup thanks to first-half goals by Julie Johnston and Christen Press.

In the match for third place, Germany beat Sweden 2-1.

The Algarve Cup is an invitational women's football tournament held annually in Portugal.

The 2015 edition served as a major warm-up for the June 6-July 15 World Cup in Canada where France and the US are firm favourites alongside holders Japan.
