Beaten Bilic senses end is near at Besiktas

Slaven Bilic admitted for the first time on Monday he did not expect to be retained as coach for next season by Turkish giants Besiktas, after a shock league defeat to Konyaspor.

The 46-year-old -- who established his reputation as a coach with his national side -- would not expect to be out of work for long with his present situation being closely watched by English league teams, in particular one of the clubs he played for West Ham.

"My intention was to stay here. Now I don't know if this is possible. The responsibility for the defeats is all mine," he said after the 0-1 loss to Konyaspor.

"I am going to sit down with the management. But I know how football works, especially in Turkey. I don't see myself being given a chance to manage Besiktas next season," added Bilic, who guided Croatia to the Euro 2008 and 2012 finals.

The defeat ended any mathematical chance Besiktas had of winning the title and leaves the club entrenched in third place behind Istanbul rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

Besiktas enjoyed a superb first half of the season, sensationally knocking Liverpool out of the Europa League and also topping Turkey's Super Lig.

But the Liverpool game proved to be the peak as they were dumped out of the Europa League at the next stage and then faltered in the domestic competition.
