Five key Bayern league matches

Five key Bundesliga matches from the 2014/15 season as Bayern Munich were crowned German league champions for the 25th time on Saturday:

Bayern Munich 4 Paderborn 0

After early season draws with Schalke and Hamburg, it took five league games for Bayern to top the Bundesliga table.

They did it in emphatic style by racing into a 2-0 lead after less than 15 minutes at the Allianz Arena as World Cup winner Mario Goetze and his former Dortmund team-mate Robert Lewandowski both netted.

The hosts enjoyed 75 percent possession and pounded the Paderborn goal with 26 shots compared to the visitors' six.

Bayern turned the screw in the final quarter of an hour as Goetze added a second and Thomas Mueller was rewarded for setting up the first two goals with their fourth.

Bayern Munich 6 Werder Bremen 0

Pep Guardiola's side maintained a four-point lead at the top of the table by routing bottom side Bremen with ex-Germany captain Philipp Lahm showed his diversity with two goals as a defensive midfielder.

Spain veteran Xabi Alonso also opened his goal account for Bayern when he drilled home a first-half free-kick before Mueller converted a penalty and Goetze netted just before the half-time whistle to put the hosts 4-0 up at the break.

Lahm and Goetze both claimed their second after the break for a confidence-boosting victory before Bayern smashed Roma 7-1 away in the Champions League group-stage match.

Then ground out a key goalless draw at Borussia Moenchengladbach, one of their few rivals for the league title.

Bayern Munich 2 Borussia Dortmund 1

Dortmund were second from bottom and Bayern were four-points clear, but the hosts found themselves in a classic battle at the Allianz Arena against their main league rivals for the previous four years.

Dortmund drew first blood when Marco Reus headed home Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's superb cross on 31 minutes.

Former Borussia striker Robert Lewandowski brought Bayern level with a 72nd-minute equaliser before Dortmund defender Neven Subotic brought down Franck Ribery in the area and Arjen Robben drilled home the resulting penalty.

VfL Wolfsburg 4 Bayern Munich 1

Bayern returned from the winter break with a commanding 11-point lead, but Wolfsburg shattered any thoughts of complacency with a stunning display of counter-attacking.

Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and Dutch striker Bas Dost ran riot with two goals each and combined for the first goal after just four minutes as Wolfsburg showed what can be done against Bayern despite just 32 percent possession.

Second-placed Wolfsburg were still in mourning following the tragic death of Belgium junior international Junior Malanda in December, but seized their chance to inflict Bayern's first league defeat of the season and trim the Bavarians' lead to seven points.

But it would be the closest Bayern were to their rivals until the title was secured at the end of April.

Bayern Munich 0 Borussia Moenchengladbach 2

As Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge later lamented, injury to Arjen Robben hurt as much as the defeat, but it was to be Bayern's last league loss before securing the title a month later.

Brazilian striker Raffael scored Gladbach's goals either side of half-time, but Bayern's season turned on the injury to Robben, mid-way through the first-half with torn stomach muscles, which ultimately ended his season.

The Dutchman lasted just 18 minutes of his comeback a month later in the German Cup semi-final defeat to Dortmund on penalties.

The Gladbach result was Bayern's second league defeat of the season but they won their next three games, including a 1-0 victory at Dortmund, before the title was confirmed against Hertha Berlin on April 25.
