Del Bosque unhappy with late finish to Liga season

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque believes his side's chances of winning an unprecedented third consecutive European Championship have been hampered by the decision to delay the end of the Spanish league season by a week.

A number of significant changes to the calendar were confirmed on Tuesday to accomodate Barcelona's participation in the Club World Cup, which included moving the Copa del Rey final forward to May 7 and playing the final round of league fixtures on May 22.

All of Europe's other major leagues will finish a week earlier with the Euros in France due to get underway on June 10.

"I have the feeling that nobody thinks about Spain, they don't take into account the interests of the national team," Del Bosque was quoted as saying by Spanish sports daily AS.

"I am not the spokesman for the federation, but I am the national team coach and this issue affects me a lot, therefore I need to call it to attention. No one has asked my opinion, because I would have said so."

Spain lie second in their qualifying group for next year's finals, three points adrift of Slovakia, who they face in Oviedo next month.
