CSKA extend winning run

Russian Premier League leaders CSKA Moscow battled from a goal down to beat visiting Rostov 2-1 on Saturday to extend their winning run to six.

Goals from Nigerian Ahmed Musa and Russian Alan Dzagoev set CSKA on their way to a morale-boosting win ahead of their midweek Champions League return play-off clash with Sporting Lisbon.

The Red Army side stay top with a 100-percent record, five points ahead of second-placed city rivals Spartak, who beat 3-1 Amkar Perm earlier Saturday.

Reigning champions Zenit St Petersburg, who play Rubin Kazan on Monday, sit third one point further back.

Iranian forward Sardar Azmoun lifted Rostov 1-0 up in the 10th minute from close range.

CSKA replied positively but the Muscovites needed almost an hour to equalise when Musa send the ball past Rostov 'keeper Soslan Dzhanaev after a one-two combination with the Swede Pontus Wernbloom.

Dzagoev netted CSKA's winner with two minutes left after his shot from 10 metres out hit the woodwork and ricocheted into the net off Dzhanaev's back.

"It's a very difficult win," CSKA manager Leonid Slutsky said. "After we conceded an early goal Rostov sat back and performed a top-quality defensive play.

"I'm very happy that we've showed strong character and managed to break through their defence twice to win this match."

Elsewhere, a brace by the Dutch midfielder Quincy Promes and a goal by Armenian international Yura Movsisyan set Russia's most successful club Spartak Moscow on their way to a confident win at Amkar Perm.

Movsisyan put Spartak ahead after 20 minutes from 12 metres out off a pinpoint pass by Roman Shirokov before a double from Promes sealed the win.

Poland's Janusz Gol got one back for Amkar with 12 minutes remaining.

"We were the better side today and our win looked natural," Spartak head coach Dmitry Alenichev said.

"It's a pity that we failed to keep a clean sheet but we're glad to grab all three points here."
