Captain Brown desperate for Celtic return

Celtic captain Scott Brown says he is raring to go again after a frustrating spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The Scotland international has missed his side's previous four matches after injuring his knee during the warm-up of Celtic's League Cup quarter-final against Hearts on October 28.

During this time the Glasgow giants have had a 100 per cent record in the league which has seen them open a six-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Brown has been delighted with his side's progress while he has been sidelined but is now desperate to play his part again, starting with this weekend's match against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

"It's always frustrating when you're not playing," Brown said.

"That's what we get paid to do, it's what we enjoy doing and that's why I came to Celtic because we play in front of great fans and against some great clubs.

"We've had some good results recently, and the lads have done well against Aberdeen and Ross County as well.

"I've been doing a lot of running, changing direction, just to make sure I'm back to 100%. I've managed to train the past couple of days so it's all good."

Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke insists his side will go to Celtic Park on Saturday looking to win, despite his club's terrible record at the home of the Scottish champions.

The Rugby Park club have managed just one victory there in the past 60 years, but Locke, whose side held Celtic to a 2-2 draw back in August says that statistic shouldn't daunt his players.

"There's no tougher game but it's one we're looking forward to. All the pressure is on them, everyone expects to go there and get beat," Locke said.

"So for us it's a point to prove and we've shown earlier in the season that if we show up and play well we can match them.

"I think we've got to take great confidence from the result we got against them. I think there are areas we can get at them but you've also got to be sensible.

"They have got quality in their team and if you go gung-ho they will pick you off there's absolutely no doubt about that.

"We're going here to try to win the game. As a manager that's the way I want to play every game. It doesn't matter if it's Celtic at Parkhead or a home game at Rugby Park, we try to win them all.

"We know we can't always do that but we'll go there and try our best and see where it takes us."

Elsewhere on Saturday, second-place Hearts will try to keep the pressure up on Celtic when they take on Dundee at Tynecastle, bottom of the table Dundee United host St Johnstone at Tannadice while Partick Thistle will attempt to end a three-game winless run against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
