Supporters were warned not to racially abuse the players during Everton's 3-0 victory at fourth-tier Carlisle United in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Everton's players were reportedly abused by a fan or fans in the home section after Arouna Kone put the Premier League team in front in the second minute of the game at Carlisle's Brunton Park ground.

Referee Lee Mason informed Everton manager Roberto Martinez and his Carlisle counterpart Keith Curle, before an announcement that abuse would not be tolerated was made over the stadium's public address system.

"I thought it was dealt with in a very good manner," Martinez told BT Sport. "We agreed to make an announcement. I thought the referee was very good in how he dealt with that.

"It was just a reaction, something that we don't want to see. It was just a reaction to the celebration of the goal and that was it. It would be wrong to highlight such a moment in an enjoyable footballing festivity."

In addition to the announcement, the local police force, Cumbria Police, published a message on Twitter calling for anyone with information about the incident to report it.

Television pictures showed Ivorian striker Kone and his South African team-mate Steven Pienaar briefly turning to look at the crowd -- Pienaar gesturing with his hand -- as they celebrated Kone's early goal.

Aaron Lennon and Ross Barkley added to Kone's strike as Everton booked their place in the fifth round.
