Cruyff 'a legend' for Dutch youngsters - Blind

Late Dutch great Johan Cruyff remains a legendary figure even for players from his country who never saw him play, Netherlands defender Daley Blind said on Monday.

Cruyff died from lung cancer at the age of 68 last week and will be honoured during the 14th minute of Holland's friendly with England on Tuesday -- a nod to his preferred shirt number -- when his image will be shown on Wembley's big screens.

Blind, who will captain Holland, was born six years after Cruyff played his final game, but the 26-year-old Manchester United player says that the former Ajax and Barcelona star's shadow has always loomed large.

"It's clear that he was one of the greatest football players, especially from Holland, but also the world," Blind told reporters at Wembley.

"Our generation of course knows him most of the time from tapes, but I think every young player knows who Johan Cruyff was and what he stands for.

"That is the most important thing. Everybody has special memories about him. He still is a legend, especially for my generation."
