Scottish Cup winner Stubbs leaves Hibs for Rotherham

Alan Stubbs will coach English second tier side Rotherham after resigning from Scottish outfit Hibernian only weeks after guiding them to the Scottish Cup trophy.

The 44-year-old Englishman -- who delivered Hibs their first trophy in 114 years in a thrilling 3-2 win over Rangers -- had a year remaining on his contract and the Scottish side refused to release him until compensation had been agreed.

However, the two clubs failed to come to an agreement which compelled Stubbs and his assistant John Doolan to resign to allow them to take over at Rotherham with both signing three year contracts.

"Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Alan Stubbs and John Doolan," read a statement from Rotherham.

"Rotherham can confirm that Alan Stubbs and John Doolan have resigned from their post as head coach and first-team coach of Hibernian FC.

"We are delighted to confirm that the club has subsequently appointed Alan Stubbs as the new first-team manager and John Doolan as assistant manager.

"Both Alan and John have signed three-year contracts."

Stubbs, who didn't deliver Hibs an immediate return to the Scottish Premiership, comes in for veteran manager Neil Warnock, who decided not to stay on in the post although he had saved Rotherham from relegation from The Championship.

John Hughes and former Rangers handler Stuart McCall have been linked with the Hibs job.
