Sigurdsson signs new contract with Swansea

Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson signed a new four-year contract with Premier League club Swansea on Tuesday.

Sigurdsson had two years left on his previous deal at the Liberty Stadium, but he has been given an improved contract as a reward for his fine performances last season.

The 26-year-old, who joined Swansea from Tottenham in 2014, announced the news on his personal Instagram account.

"Delighted to have signed a new 4 year deal with @swansofficial. Looking forward to the new season!" Sigurdsson said.

Sigurdsson was one of Iceland's Euro 2016 heroes as the minnows reached the quarter-finals in France after a stunning last 16 victory over England.

He scored 11 goals in 36 appearances last season for Swansea as Francesco Guidolin's side finished 12th in the Premier League.
