Stay or go - Gladbach give Eberl a Bayern ultimatum

Borussia Moenchengladbach has given director of sport Max Eberl a "stay or go" ultimatum amidst rumours he will take over Bayern Munich's vacant director of sport role next season.

German daily Bild say Eberl has until Sunday's Bundesliga match at home to leaders Bayern to say whether he will fulfill his Gladbach contract, which runs until 2020, or confirm he will join Germany's top club.

"The topic is annoying all of us and we no longer want to constantly keep pushing the issue away," Gladbach's vice president Rainer Bonhof told Sky.

"Either those in the south leave us in peace or one of us says: 'no'."

In short, Gladbach now expect a concrete 'I'm staying' from Eberl, 43, who has no exit clause in his contract and Gladbach has not received a transfer request from Bayern.

"We expect him to stay with us," added Bonhof.

Bayern have been without a director of sport since Matthias Sammer quit last season, due to ill health.

The defending German champions had hoped club captain Philipp Lahm would fill the vacancy after retiring from all football at the end of the season.

But Lahm turned the role down when he announced last month that he will hang up his boots in June.

According to reports, Eberl, who has been at Gladbach since 2008, has two conditions to joining Bayern.

He wants the support of both chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and president Uli Hoeness, plus he also wants to take over the job of planning the Bavarian giant's star-studded squad.
