Greek club relegated over unpaid wages

Greek second division side Acharnaikos have been relegated to the amateur third division for failing to pay nine former players, local football authorities said on Tuesday.

The Athens-based club, founded in 1938, had 54 points deducted by the league over the last two weeks for failing to meet debts, and league rules led to their relegation after missing a final deadline to pay the players.

The league said the 17 remaining teams in the second division would get three points from their scheduled games with Acharnaikos.
