Sassuolo hire Iachini after sacking Bucchi

Struggling Serie A team Sassuolo have announced Giuseppe Iachini as their new manager on Monday after sacking Cristian Bucchi earlier.

"U.S. Sassuolo Calcio announces that it has entrusted Giuseppe Iachini as coach of the first team," wrote the club in a statement.

Without a job after being sacked by Udinese in October 2016, 53-year-old Iachini has been hired to keep 16th-placed Sassuolo in the top flight.

The Neroverdi are just a point above the relegation zone after losing nine and winning just three of their 14 fixtures, and were beaten 2-0 at home by 19th-placed Hellas Verona on Saturday.

Under Bucchi, hired in the summer to replace Roma-bound Eusebio Di Francesco, Sassuolo didn't win a single one of their seven home matches, losing five and drawing two at the Mapei Stadium, and the club want to make sure the good work of the previous few seasons doesn't go to waste.

Since being promoted to Serie A for the first time in their history in 2013, tiny Sassuolo have defied expectations, finishing sixth in 2015-16 above the likes of AC Milan and Lazio and qualifying for Europe.

Sassuolo finished 12th in Serie A last season and failed to get past the Europa League group stage.

in September 2013 Iachini took over from new AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso at Palermo.
