Full-Time Cameroon experience a debacle in Manaus and are out of the World Cup 2014! Croatia had no problems in the second half against an unmotivated and unorganised side of Volker Finke und could have scored even more than four goals. The three Bundesliga-legionaries Ivica Olić, Ivan Perišić and Mario Mandžukić were the key players tonight, scoring all the goals and creating a lot of other dangerous situations. They profit from the moment of madness of Alex Song near the end of the first half which had him sent off and Cameroon competing with only ten players in the heat of Manaus. There will be a lot of discussion around Volker Finke and his team after this dreadfull performance. For the African side the last game against Brazil will be all about damage control and leaving the World Cup with some dignity. Entirely different is the situation for Croatia. The side of Nico Kovac has a real finale on its hands against Mexico. If the Croatian win on monday they will go through to the last sixteen. But this is the future, for now we say thank you for your attendance and wish you a good night.
89'
Almost the consolation goal for Cameroon! But Pierre Webó header after a fine cross by Assou-Ekotto onyl hits the crossbar. In the aftermath to this chance Assou-Ekotto tries to give his own teammate Benjamin Moukandjo a headbutt. Cameroon are really loosing their nerves tonight!
89'
Eduardo (Croatia) is shown a yellow card
The Croatian midfielder steps on the ankle of Edgar Salli and Proença does well booking Eduardo.
87'
Rakitić almost with the fith goal! Ante Rebić breaks through on the right site and sees Rakitić in the center. No defender is even close to the ball but Rakitić lob misses the goal by inches.
86'
Symptomatic! Benjamin Moukandjo finds a lot of space and time in the left corner of the Croatian box. But his shot flies past the far corner and hits the advertising board.
83'
Croatia could score one or two goals more if they really wanted to. Eduardo receives a pass in the box and tries to confuse the defenders with his technical skills instead of taking a direct shot. When he finally does the shot is blocked.
79'
A lot of changes on both sites now. Nico Kovac grants his topscorers Perišić and Olić an early finishing time. Younger players like Ante Rebić can use this game to gain more experience now.

Goooal for Croatia, 0:4 by Mario Mandžukić
Well, that was one of the easiest goals in Mario Mandžukić career. There is no resistance against Mateo Kovačić on the right wing. His pass finds Eduardo who aims at the right corner of the Cameroonian goal. Charles Itandje can save the first shot but Mandžukić has no problem to put the rebound past the keeper. The forward didn't even have to move. He just stood exactly where he was supposed to be.
72'
Substitution (in) Croatia -> Mateo Kovačić
72'
Substitution (out) Croatia -> Sammir
70'
Substitution (in) Cameroon -> Pierre Webó
70'
Substitution (out) Cameroon -> Vincent Aboubakar
69'
That shot was better! Stéphane Mbia is not attacked by the Croation defense and tries his luck from 25 meter. His bended shot misses the crossbar by inches.
69'
Substitution (in) Croatia -> Eduardo
69'
Substitution (out) Croatia -> Ivica Olić
67'
One of the few mistakes in the Croatian build-up is almost converted into the 3:1. But Vincent Aboubakar slides away during his shot from the edge of the box and therefore the ball flies far above the crossbar.
61'
Goooal for Croatia, 0:3 by Mario Mandžukić
This is it! Mario Mandžukić destroys all the hopes for the not so indomitable lions at this World Cup. The forward slams a corner by Danijel Pranjić with a stunning header past Itandje. But again the Cameroonian defender made it far to easy to score.
58'
He can do better than that! Darijo Srna is taking a free kick from 20 meters but his shot only causes happiness on the tribune.
56'
But Croatia is still the better side at the moment and quite close to their third goal. This time it is Ivica Olić who receives a cross from the right wing but misses the Cameroonian goal with his shot.
52'
The lions are sill alive! A far cross from the left site is underestimated by Danijel Pranjić. In his back Dany Nounkeu finds some space and risks everything by taking the ball volley. The shot misses the crossbar just by inches.
50'
And Mandžukić almost makes it 3:0! The forward receives a great through-ball by Sammir and encounters Itandje in an one-on-one duel. But in contrast to his teammate Perišić the Bayern Munich forward can't score the third goal for Croatia. His lob misses the goal by one meter.
48'
Goooal for Croatia, 0:2 by Ivan Perišić
But Ivan Perišić cuts all the power of Cameroonian side! The Croatian midfielder picks up a bad goal kick by Itandje and runs down the completly open left wing. Dany Nounkeu can't catch his opponent and Itandje leaves his short corner unguarded. Perišić shows no remorse and sends the ball down the net.
46'
The game continues in Manaus and Volker Finke brings on his first substition. Dany Nounkeu replaces Aurelien Chedjou, new power for the indomitable lions.

Substitution (in) Cameroon -> Dany Nounkeu

Substitution (out) Cameroon -> Aurelien Chedjou

Second Half begins
45'
Half-Time An quite entertaining first half in Manaus sees Croatia one goal and one man ahead of Cameroon. The African side made a good first impression but Ivica Olić poured cold water on the Cameroon plans with his 1:0 in the 11th minute. Soon afterwards it was Perišić who almost scored a second one before the Croatian concentrated on defending again. The Cameroonian attackers found no spaces between the thick defensive lines of the Croatian and therefore Stipe Pletikosa hadn't had the chance to show his skills even once. To add to this Cameroonian misery Alex Song was sent off shortly before half-tine after he slamed his ellbow into the back of Mario Mandžukić. It will be a very tough challenge for Cameroon to prevent an early elimination from this World Cup.
44'
Although one man down Cameroon tries to equalize before half-time. Aboubakar receives the ball after a good combination at the edge of the box. But his shot rolls slowly past the left post.
40'
Alex Song (Cameroon) is sent off
What a stupid action by Alex Song! Cameroon loses the ball during an attack and while Perišić is breaking through on the left wing Alex Song slams his ellbow in the back of Mandžukić who wanted to support his teammate during the counterattack. Pedro Proença has a perfect view on the situation and hesitates not a moment to take the approbiate action. He pulls out the red card an Cameroon has to finish this game with ten players.
38'
A lot of space for Sammir but the Croatian midfielder can't use it properly. His dribbling through the Cameroonian defense end with a harmless shot from way outside the box which is no problem for Itandje.
34'
Mbai with a nice one-two on the right site with Alex Song. Mbia enters the Croatian box but his cross is cleared by Dejan Lovren.
30'
Mario Mandžukić steps into the Cameroonian offside-trap. The Croatian forward is one step to close to the goal of Itandje when a freekick taken by Ivan Rakitić flies into the box. Good decision by the linesmen.
29'
Dario Srna is hit by Eyong Enoh during a duel in midfield. The Croatian full-back is carried out of the pitch for a short treatment but can return to the match shortly afterwards.
25'
But shots from an impossible angle are not a trademark of Stéphane Mbia. On the other site of the pitch Ivica Olić tries to score a goal of the century by taking a long ball volley. But his shot from the left edge of the box is way out of target.
22'
Again the Cameroonian with an attack on their strong right wing. The combination ends at Stéphane Mbia who has a go from a very tight angle. He should have tried a cross because his shot is absolutly no danger for the Croatian goal.
21'
Alex Song tries to push his team forward and fires a shot from 20 meters. But the ball misses the goal of Stipe Pletikosa.
15'
And that corner almost gives Croatia a two-goal lead! Danijel Pranjić serves the corner from the left site and Ivica Olić extends the cross with his hip. Ivan Perišić receives the ball and has only Charles Itandje in front of him but fails to but the ball past the good reacting keeper.
14'
The side of Volker Finke seems to be shocked. The left full-back Assou-Ekotto is again pressuered by Perišić but this time the cross is headed away for a corner.
11'
Goooal for Croatia, 0:1 by Ivica Olić
The first real attack of the Croatian side and suddenly Cameroon are 1:0 behind! Srna with a nice cross from the right wing and in the center it is Mandžukić who makes a great lay-off with his chest to Perišić. Perišić sees Ivica Olić at the edge of the six-yard box and plays a fantastic pass. Olić has no problem to bring home the 1:0 lead with his left foot.
7'
... but the freekick itself is harmless. But before the setpiece was taken there was a coming together between Stéphane Mbia and Mario Mandžukić. The Cameroonian is lucky that Proença did not book him for his use of his arms and hands.
5'
Vincent Aboubakar is really willing to show his skills tonight. The forward breaks through on the right site and can only be stopped by a foul by Dejan Lovren. Free kick close to the box ...
3'
Cameroon is starting very aggressively. Vincent Aboubakar receives the ball on the right site of the Croatian box and he tries to find a teammate with a hard cross. But the ball is cleared and during the following corner Pedro Proença sees a foul by Mbia. Croatia can relieve themselves.

The game is under way! Both teams wear their useall dress. Cameroon their red shorts and green jerseys and the Croatian their white-red checkered jerseys.

Kick-Off
The referee tonight is the Portugese Pedro Proença. He is taking a last look around. Both sides are ready, the game will start every second now!
Both sides are on the pitch now and the national anthems are being played. It is still very hot in Manaus und the sweat is running down the faces already.
The complete lineups of both teams can be seen here
Although the absence of Eto'o seems like a big blow for Cameroon Finke might even be a little bit happy about it. In the first match the Cameroonian attacks were easy to defend because the whole offensive tactic was based on the abilities of Eto'o. Tonight it could be the hour of the players who stood in the second row and who were hampered by Eto'o's presence.
While Kovac has nothing to worry about injuries his counterpart Volker Finke must handle the absence of Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroonian super-star has severe pain in his right knee and is not even sitting on the bench. The pain is the result of an old injury Eto'o suffered four months ago and never healed properly. Eto'o is replaced by Vincent Aboubakar. Finke makes another change compared to the first match against Mexico. Joel Matip replaces Cédric Djeugoue.
Nico Kovac makes a third change by starting with Sammir instead of Mateo Kovačić. Sammir was born in Brazil and Kovac expects that he can handle the moist and hot climate in Manaus better than the other players. Kovac was almost forced to make a fourth change but Luka Modrić recovered from his right foot injury and is able to partizipate.
Also two important players are returning to the starting eleven. The experienced Danijel Pranjić replaces young Šime Vrsaljko as a right full-back and Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandžukić is supposed to score the goals for "The Blazers“ instead of Nikica Jelavic. Mandžukić was the one who scored the very important 1:0 against Iceland during the second playoff match but was later send off with a red card and therefore missed the first game.
But although both teams lost their first matches Croatia are probably the favourites tonight. The performance of the side trained by Nico and Robert Kovac against Brazil was very respectable. For a long time they were able to control the Brazil offense and only a bad penalty decision by the refeere send them on the losing end.
Both teams had a bad to start to the World Cup. Croatia lost the opening game against the home side Brazil with 1:3. Cameroon were defeated by Mexico with 0:1 and were even lucky that the referee disallowed two goals for the Mexican side. Therefore both teams need to score their first points tonight if they want to reach the last sixteen.
Commentating for you tonight is Maximilian Rieger. Have fun!
Welcome to the duel of those two teams who haven't scored a point in Group A yet. Croatia is meeting Cameroon in the „City of the forest“ Manaus!
