Congolese striker Domi Kumbela has left Eintracht Braunschweig after the club was relegated to Germany's second division.

The 30-year-old's contract, which ran until 2016, was only valid if the club survived relegation, Braunschweig announced.

"We were keen to keep him at the club but we could not meet his financial demands," explained Marc Arnold, Braunschweig's sporting director.

"I have experienced some great times here, but with the end of my career approaching, I have to find a new challenge," said Kumbela, whose future remains uncertain.

The Kinshasa native had been at Braunschweig since 2010, winning the golden boot in Germany's second division in 2013 before registering nine goals and two assists last season for the club, who finished bottom in the Bundesliga.
