Bosnia captain Spahic returns for Euro qualifiers

Bosnia and Hercegovina captain Emir Spahic, who quit international football last month, is returning to the national team for Euro 2016 qualifiers against Belgium and Wales.

"On his farewell a possibility was left open to call him back into the team if needed and the last matches showed that he is still needed in the team," coach Safet Susic told the Bosnia Football Federation's web site.

"Considering how much he cares about the team he had given a lot, I invited him again as I realised we needed him," Susic said.

Bosnia lost their opening Euro 2016 qualifier 2-1 at home to Cyprus.

Spahic quit the Bosnia side after 10 years' national service culminating in his country's first appearance at a World Cup finals.

The 33-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender helped Bosnia qualify for their debut World Cup in Brazil, but they failed to make it out of the group stage after losses to Argentina, Nigeria and a closing 3-1 win over Iran.
