Portugal's Coentrao ruled out of France friendly

Portugal left-back Fabio Coentrao has pulled out of Saturday's friendly against France with a left knee injury, the Portuguese football Federation announced on Monday.

Newly appointed coach Fernando Santos, who formerly coached Greece and was appointed after Paulo Bento stepped down following a shock defeat to Albania in a Euro 2016 qualifier, will not call up a replacement for the Real Madrid wingback for the game in Paris.

Malaga's Antunes and Eliseu of Benfica are readymade replacements already in the squad.

Coentrao has not played for European champions Real since the third match of the season and his club coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed on Saturday the defender was still unfit.

The 26-year-old has scored four goals in 47 appearances at international level and has been at Real Madrid since 2009 where he won the Spanish title in 2012 as well as the Champions League and Spanish Cup last season.
