Lucho Gonzalez returns to River Plate

Midfielder Lucho Gonzalez has become the latest veteran Argentinian to return to the Buenos Aires giants River Plate.

Former Porto and Marseille playmaker Gonzalez, 34, is returning for a second spell at River having latterly played in Qatar.

He follows in the footsteps of 33-year-old Javier Saviola, who has gone back to the club where he started out after playing for Verona in Italy last season.

Capped 47 times by Argentina, Gonzalez was part of the team that won Olympic Gold in Athens in 2004 and was in the squad that got to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2006.

River are through to the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, in which they will face Guarani of Paraguay next month.
