Vargas set to be Germany's next Chilean import

Eduardo Vargas is set to become the next Chile star to play in the Bundesliga after Hoffenheim revealed on Saturday they are on the verge of signing the Napoli forward.

The 25-year-old striker, who spent last season on loan at QPR in the English Premier League, has already completed a medical and is reported to cost six million euros ($6.8 million) having made 48 appearances and scored 22 goals for Chile.

"We assume that the formalities will be completed," said Hoffenheim's director of sport Alexander Rosen after his side's 2-1 league defeat at home to Bayern Munich.

"He can play in several positions and we'll have more options."

Vargas will be brought in to replace Brazil striker Roberto Firmino, who joined Liverpool in June.

He will become the third member of the Chile side which won last month's Copa America to move to the Bundesliga along with Bayern Munich's Arturo Vidal and Bayer Leverkusen's Charles Aranguiz, who tore his Achilles tendon just a week after signing.

Vargas' four goals made him the Copa America's joint top-scorer, alongside Peru's Paolo Guerrero.
