Krul blow as Newcastle lose injured keeper for season

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul was on Sunday ruled out for the rest of the Premier League season after rupturing his cruciate ligament in his right knee on international duty.

The 27-year-old Dutch international had to be withdrawn after 81 minutes of the Netherlands' Euro 2016 qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday.

"Krul will now return to Tyneside for further treatment and rehabilitation and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery," said a statement on the Newcastle website.

Newcastle are rock bottom of the Premier League table with just three points from eight matches and still waiting for their first victory.
