Ramirez double fires Middlesbrough into pole position

Gaston Ramirez lifted Middlesbrough back to the top of the Championship with a double strike in his side's 2-1 win against Wolves on Friday.

Uruguayan forward Ramirez, who joined on loan from Southampton in January, opened the scoring with a 24th minute header and added a fortuitous second 10 minutes after half-time at the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson headed into his own net in the final minute, but Aitor Karanka's side held for a win that took them above Burnley and Hull in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

With Hull losing at Birmingham on Thursday, Middlesbrough are now two points clear of second placed Burnley, who can regain top spot with a win against arch rivals Blackburn on Saturday.

Wolves were watched by just 291 away fans because the majority boycotted the trip to protest over ticket prices and television rescheduling of games.
