Fractured leg blow for Wales's Ledley

Wales midfielder Joe Ledley appears certain to miss the 2016 European Championship after Crystal Palace announced on Wednesday that he has fractured his fibula.

"The club can confirm that midfielder Joe Ledley sustained a leg injury in the game against Stoke City on Saturday, which saw him suffer a fracture of the fibula," Palace said in a statement.

"He will be continually assessed over the next few weeks by the club's medical staff."

The former Celtic midfielder will also miss Palace's final Premier League game at Southampton on Sunday, as well as the FA Cup final clash with Manchester United on May 21.

Ledley, who was named in Wales manager Chris Coleman's 29-man training squad on Monday, is one of only a few midfielders playing regular Premier League football at his country's disposal.

The 29-year-old has won 61 caps, scoring four goals, and made seven appearances in qualifying as Wales reached their first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup.

The Football Association of Wales tweeted: "Joe Ledley sustained a fracture of the fibula at the weekend. He will continue to be assessed over the coming weeks."

Coleman is due to name his final 23-man squad for the tournament in France on May 31. His side play their final pre-tournament friendly against Sweden in Stockholm on June 5.

Wales will face Slovakia, Russia and neighbours England in Group B.
