Boro sign Villa's American keeper Guzan

Middlesbrough on Friday announced the arrival of Aston Villa's United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan, the Premier League newcomers' eighth new signing of the close season.

Guzan made 34 appearances for relegated Villa last season and played every match in the USA's run to the Copa America semi-final.

The 31-year-old is due to serve as back-up at Boro to former Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who joined the newly-promoted Premier League side this month.

As Middlesbrough prepare for their first season in the Premier League for seven years, coach Aitor Karanka has been busy beefing up his squad and Guzan and Valdes join Alvaro Negredo, Antonio Barragan, Viktor Fischer, Bernardo Espinosa, Marten de Roon and Jordan McGhee among the new faces.

Guzan has agreed a two-year deal.
