Ciman provides late drama as LAFC opens new stadium

Laurent Ciman scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time as the Los Angeles FC opened its new stadium in Hollywood fashion on Sunday with a thrilling 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders.

The Sounders did their best to try and spoil the party at the $350 million Banc of California Stadium, but Ciman was having none of that as he beat goalkeeper Stefan Frei with a long-range blast just before the final whistle.

Tyler Miller posted the shutout in the expansion LAFC's first home game by making three saves on the night in front of a crowd of about 22,000.

The LAFC's addition to the Major League Soccer was four years in the making and the ownership group, that included actor Will Ferrell and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, was on hand.

The LAFC will play in the same league as five-time MLS champions LA Galaxy, which recently staged a coup by signing former Manchester United star and Swedish national team member Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
