Celtic manager Neil Lennon said he can't ask any more of his players at the moment after they secured a 5-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Friday.

It was the Parkhead club's second comprehensive win in a week after they chalked up a record 7-0 win over Hearts on Sunday to secure their place in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

It extends Celtic's unbeaten start to the season to 14 games as they move eight points clear of Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the top of the table.

"I'm absolutely delighted. The quality of football was a really high level and some of the players are really hitting top form," Lennon said.

"I thought we started the game very well and in the second half I thought we were fantastic. I would have liked to have the game finished off earlier but we are playing very well at the moment.

"I couldn't ask anymore of the players at the minute. I'm really pleased with the consistency and intensity of our performances. It puts us in a really strong position now."

While Celtic have shined domestically, their form in the Champions League this season has been disappointing.

Their defeat to AC Milan a fortnight ago means Celtic will finish bottom of their group and won't have any European football after Christmas this season

Lennon's side take on Barcelona in the Nou Camp on Wednesday in their final Group H match and the Celtic manager hopes his side can continue their recent rich vein of form in a game with only pride at stake for his side.

"We need to take that form into Wednesday night and take something out of the game and then push on domestically and just keep trying to improve," Lennon said.

"You can see the improvement in the team slowly but surely and we are starting to hit real good form at the moment.

"It is a meaningless match but chances to play Barcelona don't come around very often and we will try and endeavour to get something out of the game.

"We can learn from the experience of playing in the Nou Camp as well and it well stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

"We are hoping James Forrest will be ok and we are hoping Adam Matthews will join the squad as well and that will give us a real boost as we have missed him a little bit.

"Georgios Samaras and Nir Biton should be also be available."

Kris Commons grabbed a double in the 5-0 win to take his tally to seven goals in his last four matches and earn the praise of his manager.

"I think there is more to come from him in terms of his general play but as a goal scorer and value for money he has been one of my best signings and one of the best we've had at the club for a long time," Lennon said.

"He's a sensational player and long may it continue."

Anthony Stokes and Swedish-born substitute Bahrudin Atajic also got on the scoresheet while Nigerian international Efe Ambrose, whose daughter had been born earlier in the day, got on the end of Charlie Mulgrew's corner to bullet a header past Gunnar Nielsen that sparked a colourful celebration.

"He's low maintenance and a wonderful professional. It's been a very memorable day for him and one he will remember all his life," Lennon said of Ambrose.

"We just asked him to top it off if he could with a win and to get a goal was the icing on the cake."
