Highly-rated Embolo chooses to stay at Basel

Cameroon-born Swiss starlet Breel Embolo has opted to stay at FC Basel after extending his contract through to June 2019, his club announced on Monday.

Embolo, 18, had just over a year to run on his current contract after joining Basel's academy in 2010. The striker is seen as one of the hottest young prospects in the Swiss league.

The 2014 Young Player of the Year in Switzerland was linked with a move to German side VfL Wolfsburg after scoring his first goal in the Champions League in a 4-0 win over Ludogorets Razgrad earlier this season.

Basel, who face Porto on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, also confirmed the contract renewal of Philippe Degen.

The former Liverpool defender, 32, has extended his deal with the Swiss title holders to 2016.
