Kris Commons hopes his double in Celtic's 4-0 win over Hamilton Academical has helped stake his place in the Hoops team to face Internazionale in their Europa League round of 32 second leg in Milan on Thursday.

The former Scotland international returned from two weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury to help fire the Hoops to their seventh consecutive league victory as he scored the opening and final goals in the comfortable victory over Hamilton.

Commons watched from the stands as his team-mates twice fought from going behind to claim a 3-3 draw with Italian giants Inter last Thursday and he is looking forward to being given an opportunity in the San Siro.

"I can't wait for the San Siro and hopefully I am good enough to get into the starting 11," Commons said.

"It's great that the boys have given us a chance of getting a result out there. I think we will get chances.

"Hopefully on the night we can keep them at bay and not give them as many chances as we did the other night.

"They are a very good team and a very experienced team so it will be a tough test for us. It's going to be extremely difficult but if we can go out there and get a result then it will be a great achievement for us.

"I don't think they are defensively great and they showed that the other night. Usually Italian teams are very difficult to break down. But in saying that, they could say the same about us.

"If we can cut out the defensive errors and push them then we have got a chance."

Following their exertions in the draw with Inter, manager Ronny Deila made four changes to the side to face Hamilton at Parkhead as James Forrest, John Guidetti, Efe Ambrose and Commons all landed places in the starting 11.

The Hoops manager was rewarded for his selection as a Commons doubled bookended goals from Stefan Johansen and Guidetti.

And Deila said it gave him plenty to think about as he attempts to plot a victory in Italy.

"We have a very good squad and I'm fairly comfortable with whoever I pick to play the game," Norwegian manager Deila said.

"I can say it is a selection celebration for Thursday instead of selection problems. We need those players we have now and it is so good to pick players who are different as well.

"It depends on how we see the game and how we want to play and we can pick players out of that.

"In training we get high quality and you can see that when they come on to the pitch. They are very fit and it is hard to play against us."

It is a big week for Celtic, who face Inter on Thursday before welcoming nearest challengers Aberdeen in a top-of-the-table Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday.

The Hoops are just three points ahead of the Dons, albeit with a game in hand, but Celtic manager Deila seemed unfazed by the task in hand.

"They will keep getting bigger and bigger weeks all the time if we just keep on winning," the Celtic boss said.

"Hopefully it will be the same in the two following weeks where we have the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup and then the final of the League Cup coming up and maybe another spell in Europe."
