Brazil draft Neto for injured keeper Alves

Brazil have replaced reserve goalkeeper Diego Alves with Fiorentina's Neto in their Copa America squad after the Valencia shot-stopper tore a knee ligament, the CBF said Sunday.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) indicated coach Dunga had called in Fiorentina's Neto, a member of the squad which took silver medals at the 2012 Olympics, to replace Alves for the tournament starting on Chile on June 11.

Brazil are already missing Chelsea's Oscar for their campaign as they attempt to bounce back from their World Cup humiliation by Germany.

Alves is expected to be out of action for six months after tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee in last week's 3-2 win over Almeria.

Dunga, Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning skipper, coached the national side to the 1997 Copa title but was sacked after a quarter-final loss to the Netherlands at the 2010 World Cup.

He returned last July to succeed Luiz Felipe Scolari after the Germans flattened the hosts' World Cup hopes.

The Brazilians kick off against Peru on June 14 before facing Colombia and Venezuela.
