Germany international Sami Khedira says Roberto di Matteo's resignation as Schalke 04 coach put him off a move to the Royal Blues and led to the Real Madrid midfielder joining Juventus.

"It was a serious consideration for me, but in the end the unrest was too much. When the coach was fired, that was decisive for me," the 28-year-old told Sky.

Di Matteo quit Schalke last month after the club failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Khedira then agreed a four-year deal to join Champions League finalists Juventus on a free transfer after his Madrid contract expired, but the ex-Stuttgart star had been toying with the idea of a move back to Germany.

The midfielder said he had a "very good conversation" with senior Schalke figures and Di Matteo before the coach resigned, but after that happened "it was clear that I would take the step towards Italy".

Juventus lost the Champions League final 3-1 to Barcelona in Berlin last weekend, but Khedira is tipping his new team to enjoy more success after they won the Italian league title for the fourth straight season and also won the Coppa Italia.

"At some point in the next few years, Juventus will win the Champions League with me in the team, so it's a good fit," he said.

The Stuttgart-born Khedira had been at Madrid since the summer of 2010, and helped the Spanish giants win one La Liga title, the Copa del Rey twice, one Spanish Super Cup, a Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup in his four seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.
