Lehmann linked to Nuremberg director's vacancy

Former Arsenal and Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is a candidate for the vacant director of sport role at fallen Bundesliga giants Nuremberg, who are now languishing in Germany's second division.

"You can't say that Jens Lehmann wouldn't be interesting. He's a personality," Nuremberg's chairman Thomas Grethlein told Sport1.

"We have a plan and lots of alternatives."

The 45-year-old Lehmann retired in 2011 after winning 61 caps for Germany, plus 148 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, and has been working as a television pundit for German broadcaster RTL.

He has earned his football coaching licence and has been linked to managerial roles at both Bundesliga side Stuttgart and second division 1860 Munich.

Germany daily Bild has reported Lehmann has talked to Nuremberg's bosses, which Grethlein did not deny.

Since being relegated from Germany's top flight in the 2013/14 season, Nuremberg finished ninth last season and are currently 13 of the 18 sides in the second Bundesliga having lost 3-2 at local rivals Greuther Fuerth on Sunday.

They won the German Cup title as recently in 2007, but were last German champions in 1968.

In late July, Nuremberg's director of sport Martin Bader handed in his resignation after 11 years and will leave the club at the end of September.
