Sinama-Pongolle signs for Dundee United

Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle has returned to football after agreeing a deal with Scottish Premiership strugglers Dundee United.

Sinama-Pongolle, 31, has signed on until the end of the season subject to international clearance, United announced on Friday.

"He will bring experience, tactical awareness and quality to our squad. He understands football, shows excellent passing and positional sense. I am looking forward to working with him," said United manager Mixu Paatelainen.

Sinama-Pongolle, who won one cap for France in 2008, had been a free agent after leaving Swiss side Lausanne Sport.

He is the third player to join the Tangerines since the appointment of Paatelainen as manager, following the arrival of former Hamburg and West Ham United powerhouse Guy Demel and the return to the club of defender Gavin Gunning.

Japan international goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima, formerly of Standard Liege, also agreed a move to Tannadice pending a work permit.

United are bottom of the Premiership table with just eight points, six points adrift of safety before hosting Hamilton Academical on Saturday.
