Zarate, Kondogbia hit with Serie A bans

Controversial Fiorentina striker Mauro Zarate and Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia have been handed three and two-match suspensions respectively in relation to incidents during their league clash last weekend.

Zarate was one of three players sent off in a trouble-hit finish to Fiorentina's 2-1 win in Florence on Sunday, the Argentinian shown a straight red card for grabbing Jeison Murillo by the neck in the closing minutes.

He has been handed a three-game league ban for "violent conduct", according to Serie A officials, that means he will miss upcoming games against Atalanta, Napoli and Roma.

Inter played with 10 men for the closing 10 minutes after Alex Telles was sent off for a second bookable offence. But Roberto Mancini's men officially finished with nine men after Kondogbia was shown red after the final whistle for applauding the referee in a "blatant, sarcastic and prolonged" fashion.

The Frenchman will miss upcoming games with Sampdoria and Juventus.

It is not the first time Zarate, who recently joined the Florence club from West Ham, has fallen foul of ill discipline.

He was fined 500,000 euros by former club Lazio when he flew his family to the Maldives for a holiday after telling the club he had flown to Argentina for treatment on a skin condition.

He then returned to Argentina, where he signed for Velez Sarsfield despite still being under contract with Lazio. After a complaint by the Italian club, FIFA ruled Zarate and Velez were liable to share the costs of more than five millions euros in compensation.

Fiorentina sit third in Serie A, eight points behind leaders Juventus, with Inter in fifth at four points further off the pace.
